Dress Code

General Rules:

• Dance sweaters, warm-ups, and fitted dance jackets may be worn during class at the instructor’s discretion. Baggy clothing is not permitted, as it can prevent instructors from properly assessing technique and alignment. (Exception: Hip Hop classes.)

• Athletic shorts are permitted but are not recommended for most classes. Leggings, fitted dance shorts, wrap skirts, or biker shorts/spandex are preferred, especially for ballet.

• Hair must be secured away from the face at all times. Ballet students should wear their hair in a neat bun whenever possible. Other classes may wear ponytails, braids, or other secure styles approved by the instructor.

• All dancers should arrive dressed and ready for class before entering the studio.

• Proper dance shoes must be worn for each class. Street shoes are not permitted on studio floors.

• Dance shoes should never be worn outside on grass, dirt, mud, or concrete in order to keep our studio floors clean and free of debris.

• Small stud earrings are permitted. Dangling jewelry of any kind is not allowed, including necklaces, bracelets, hoop earrings, and other loose or hanging accessories, for safety reasons.

• Dancewear should be clean, modest, and in good condition.

• No chewing gum, food, or drinks (other than water in a closed container) are allowed in the studio.

• Instructors reserve the right to ask a dancer to correct dress code violations before participating in class.

Our Dress Code By Class

Tiny Tots (3-4)

Kinderdance (5-6)

Our Tiny Tots dancers should arrive to class dressed and ready to dance! Following a dress code helps create a professional classroom environment, allows instructors to see proper technique, and helps dancers feel like part of the EDSPA family.

Required Attire:

🩷 Pink leotard
🩷 Pink tights
🩷 Pink ballet skirt or dance shorts
🩷 Pink ballet shoes
🖤 Black tap shoes (for tap classes)

For Colder Months:

🩷 Pink dance sweater or wrap
🩷 Pink leg warmers

Hair Requirements:

Kinderdance (5-6)

Our Kinderdance dancers are encouraged to come to class dressed and ready to learn. A consistent dress code helps students stay focused, builds confidence, and allows instructors to properly evaluate technique and alignment in a structured learning environment.

As dancers progress into Primary 1, maintaining a consistent dress code becomes increasingly important. Proper dance attire allows instructors to clearly see alignment and technique while helping dancers develop confidence, discipline, and pride in their training.

Advanced dancers are expected to maintain a professional appearance that reflects their commitment to their training. Proper dance attire allows instructors to clearly see technique, alignment, and muscle engagement while preparing dancers for higher-level performance opportunities.

Adult (18+)

Advanced (14-18)

Adult dancers are encouraged to wear comfortable, supportive dancewear that allows for freedom of movement while still providing instructors with the ability to see proper alignment and technique. Clean, appropriate attire helps ensure a safe and productive class environment for all dancers.

Required Attire:

🌈 Comfortable leotard, fitted top, or activewear
🌈 Leggings, fitted dance pants, or shorts
🩷 Ballet slippers or soft dance shoes (for Ballet classes)
🤎 Tap shoes (for Tap classes, if applicable)
🤎 Jazz shoes (for Jazz classes, if applicable)
👟 Clean, non-marking athletic shoes for Hip Hop or applicable classes

For Colder Months:

🧥 Sweatshirts, wrap tops, or warm-up layers are welcome
🩷 Leggings, tights, or warm-up pants for comfort

Hair Requirements:

🎀 Hair should be pulled back and secured away from the face
✨ Ponytails, buns, braids, or other neat styles are all acceptable as long as they allow for safe movement

Dancewear Drive! - Donate Old Dancewear!

At EDSPA, we believe every dancer deserves the opportunity to dance, regardless of financial circumstances. Our Dancewear Drive collects gently used dancewear and dance shoes that dancers have outgrown or no longer need. Donated items are cleaned, organized, and made available to dancers and families who may need assistance obtaining dance attire.

We gladly accept donations of:

Hip hop sneakers
Dance skirts and shorts
Warm-ups and dance apparel
Dance bags and accessories

Donations can be dropped off at the studio during regular business hours.

By donating your outgrown dancewear, you're helping ensure that every dancer has access to the clothing and footwear they need to participate confidently in class. Together, we can support our dance community and help every dancer find their light.
