Dress Code Policies

General Rules:

  • Dance sweaters are allowed, but no baggy clothing during class (except in Hip Hop).
  • Athletic shorts are allowed but not recommended. Recommended alternatives include leggings, wrap skirts, or biker shorts/spandex, especially for ballet.
  • Hair should always be secured away from the face, preferably in a bun for ballet.

Our Dress Code By Class

Tiny Tots

Attire: Tiny Tots should wear a pink leotard with a matching pink skirt and pink tights. This uniform helps our youngest dancers move freely while allowing instructors to see their body alignment and posture.

Shoes: Students should wear pink ballet shoes for ballet class and black tap shoes for tap shoes.

Hair: Hair should be neatly secured in a bun to keep it out of the dancer’s face and maintain safety during movement.

Primary 1

Attire: Primary 1 dancers wear a purple leotard with a matching skirt and pink tights. This attire provides comfort and flexibility while supporting proper technique as students develop strength and coordination.

Shoes: Students need pink ballet shoes for ballet, black tap shoes for tap, and black jazz shoes for jazz classes. Proper footwear ensures safe movement and proper sound for tap rhythms.

Hair: Hair should be pulled back into a secure bun, keeping the face and neck clear for safe, focused movement.

Primary 2

Intermediate & Advanced

Intermediate & Advanced

Attire: Primary 2 dancers wear a black leotard with a matching skirt and pink tights. This uniform helps instructors assess posture, turnout, and alignment as students prepare for intermediate-level technique.

Shoes:

Students should wear pink ballet shoes for ballet, black non-shiny tap shoes for tap, and black jazz shoes for jazz classes. Using the correct shoes helps prevent injury and supports proper technique.

Hair: Hair should be secured in a bun, maintaining a professional look and keeping hair safely out of the way during movement.

Why Dancers Dress the Way We Do

At El Dorado School of Performing Arts, we encourage dancers to wear clothing and shoes that allow them to move freely, safely, and comfortably. Proper dance attire helps teachers see alignment and technique, prevents injuries, and makes it easier for dancers to learn and grow.

From ballet slippers to leotards, jazz shoes to hip hop sneakers, each piece of clothing or footwear is chosen to support the style of dance, build confidence, and help dancers perform at their best. Dressing appropriately isn’t about rules—it’s about helping every dancer feel ready to move, learn, and shine!
